  Healthcare Choices

By Stacey Newson

Healthcare may be changing but choosing the right plan is an important decision. Every year you should review your current coverage. There may be changes in your health, finances, and your prescriptions may have changed. You do have the option to change doctors, hospitals, or providers. If you are satisfied with your current coverage, then there is no need to change. If you decide to change, it might be helpful to get counseling or talk to your benefits administrator. It is important to know that you are receiving all the coverage and services that you want.

There are several things to consider, your deductibles and premiums. The cost of hospital and doctor visits may be different from a previous provider. Do you know whether you can keep the same doctors? Will the cost of your prescription change and are they covered under the new plan? You need to get answers to all of your questions prior to changing your insurance.

You can help manage your health related information by using electronic health records. Electronic records help reduce paperwork and medical errors. You can give all of your providers the same information about your prescriptions, treatments, test results, and overall condition. Electronic records also make it easier to keep track of dates, last physical, and major operation. This information may be important to another doctor or provider.
